What is my IP address?
Your IP address is a unique number that identifies your device on the internet. Every request you make from your browser is stamped with an IP so the response knows where to come back. IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42; IPv6 addresses look like 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334. The IP box above shows the address your ISP has given you and what any website you visit sees.
Why do sites see a different IP than my router shows me?
Your router shows your local IP (like 192.168.x.x) — that only exists inside your home or office network. When your traffic reaches the internet, your router or ISP substitutes a public IP that identifies your whole connection. The public IP is what every website sees. VPNs and corporate proxies substitute another IP on top of that.
Is my IP address personal information?
Under most modern privacy laws, an IP address is considered personal data because it can be linked back to a specific subscriber account via the ISP. That is why serious sites treat IPs as sensitive: log carefully, anonymize before analytics, and never expose in URLs.
Does this tool track me or store my data?
No. The tool fetches your headers once from an edge function that returns them straight back to your browser. Nothing is written to a database. The DNS lookup queries go directly from your browser to Google Public DNS-over-HTTPS — Zilonex never sees them.
How do I hide my IP?
Three options in order of trust: (1) a reputable paid VPN — routes your traffic through their servers so sites see the VPN IP; (2) Tor Browser — anonymizes via a 3-hop volunteer relay network; (3) a business-grade proxy or corporate egress. Free VPNs usually monetize by selling your data — the least private option.
What is a DNS record and why should I care?
DNS records are the directory of the internet. A records map a domain to an IPv4 address, AAAA records to IPv6, MX records tell mail servers where to deliver email, TXT records hold verification tokens and policies like SPF and DMARC. If any of these are wrong or missing, your website or email will silently break. The DNS lookup tab shows the current records for any domain.
